The Wild West of Web3 by BorgoAcademy
GM fam!
Ever wonder how I balance my life's big choices while diving headfirst into the uncertain world of Web3?
Over the past two years, my journey through the crazy wild west of Web3 has been filled with choices, opportunities, and challenges. I've had the privilege of advising Fortune 500 brands on their Web3, Metaverse, and NFT strategies, but along the way, I've also made some tough decisions that may seem counterintuitive to many.
I've deliberately turned down opportunities to speak, workshop, and visit the majority of the world's key cities, prioritizing my family over travel and business opportunities. I've made the conscious choice to move into a small town that fits with me, and decided to build my business around both family and lifestyle.
You see, this is an incredibly difficult decision. I know I could have been more successful, made at least twice as much money, and had double the impact I have today.
So you may ask, why the F*CK have you done this?
Growing up in a family where my Dad's only option was to work 16 hours a day, otherwise we wouldn't have had enough to eat, wear, or a roof over our heads, made me realize very early on that the freedom of choice is the ultimate success factor I would pursue throughout my life.
It became clear to me that real success is having the blessing to prioritize deliberately what truly matters to me, even if it means turning down seemingly significant opportunities. It's a choice of quality over quantity, depth over breadth. This prioritization of what truly matters is a great 'hack,' as it has made it much easier for me to decide where I invest my energy and time.
And all of these experiences have taught me a tremendous amount about what truly matters in life, and what doesn’t. Plot twist: a lot of the things I used to care about, I don’t anymore. And things I used to not care very much about are now my top priorities.
Here are 5 insights that I have used as a compass to guide my journey:
1. Family first
No matter how enticing the opportunity, I've learned to prioritize family. I could travel every week to attend events, workshops, or meet clients, but I chose to be there for my son as he grows up.
2. Depth over breadth
Instead of spreading myself thin across multiple areas, I've chosen to dive deep into specific verticals of this space e.g Fashion, Automotive and Sports. It's about mastering one field rather than dabbling in many.
3. Make a plan and stick to it
In the fast-paced world of tech, it's easy to get caught up in the hype. But I've learned the importance of sticking to the plan, keeping myself focused on one opportunity at a time, and doubling down when others doubt.
4. Quality over quantity
I've learned that it's not about how many opportunities you seize, but the value that each one brings. At the peak of my inbound, I was literally receiving 20 to 35 DMs a day, from which I chose to answer just a handful. It's better to do a few things well than many things poorly.
5. Live in place that is the opposite of your job
To prevent burnout while working under immense pressure and at a high pace, I've chosen to live in a small town instead of a global capital. Although my job is extremely intense, as soon as I close my computer and step outside to touch some grass, nobody could care less about who I am or what I do for a living.
Spotlight: Unpacking the Industrial Metaverse
Speaking of making choices, and doubling down on specific opportunities, today I want to focus on what really matters in business. I'm talking about its real-world applications and transformative impact.
A prime example? The Industrial Metaverse.
This is not just shiny new tech jargon; it's a transformative force in sectors like manufacturing, construction, and engineering. Imagine a virtual environment where engineers and designers collaborate in real-time, regardless of their physical location. This isn't some sci-fi scenario; it's happening right now. The Industrial Metaverse is already revolutionizing how we design, test, and optimize, making it a cornerstone in the future of industrial processes.
Now, why should you care?
Because the Industrial Metaverse is a goldmine of nearly untapped potential - not just for the big players but for advisors, consultants, and forward-thinkers like yourself. Trust me, we've only scratched the surface; there's a whole industry full of possibilities waiting to be discovered.
If you find something that turns heads, reach out. This could be your ticket to a killer gig or the launchpad for your very own venture.
Below, you’ll find an image showcasing how we got where we are.

Do you want to see some use cases of the Industrial Metaverse? 🤔
Real vs Virtual: The Industrial Metaverse is creating a cleaner connection between the real and virtual worlds, making work easier and cheaper. It's not just about efficiency - it's about sustainability too.
Industry transformation: From improved design and engineering to more extensive testing and validation, the Industrial Metaverse is transforming every industry. It's solving real-world problems digitally, changing how organizations operate.
Supply Chain Management: Companies can use the Industrial Metaverse to track and manage their supply chains more efficiently. This includes monitoring the movement of goods, predicting delivery times, and identifying potential bottlenecks.
Training and Simulation: Industrial Metaverse can be used for immersive training simulations. For example, airline pilots can practice in virtual cockpits, and factory workers can learn to operate complex machinery without any physical risk.
The Future is here: The Industrial Metaverse is not just a concept - it's a reality that's already shaping our world. And it's only going to get bigger.
Digital Twins: The concept of digital twins is becoming a reality, with entire factories and cities being mirrored in the virtual world. This is revolutionizing how we plan, design, and operate our physical world.
Mind blown yet?
Let's pick Digital Twins as an example and take a look at the size of the opportunity for this specific use case.

Featured project: Siemens & NVIDIA - Pioneering the Industrial Metaverse
Let’s go straight into fact, as announced last year, Siemens and NVIDIA are investing a whopping €1bn in a new campus at Siemens' Erlangen facility in Germany.
This isn't just a tech playground; it's a global R&D hub aimed at fusing the Metaverse and AI for industrial automation.
The campus is part of a larger €2 billion global investment for 2023 and will focus on sustainable, high-tech manufacturing. It's not just about the tech; it's about creating an ecosystem that includes partners from business and scientific communities.
Siemens is already a leader in industrial automation, and with NVIDIA's AI prowess, they're setting the stage for a more efficient, flexible, and sustainable future.
Some major Highlights:
Digital twin development: Siemens has been in the digital twin game since 2018. The new campus will leverage this expertise to develop buildings with digital twins, optimizing layout before it's implemented in the real world.
Skill upgrades: Employees are upgrading their skills to actively shape this digital transformation. This is a human-centric approach to tech, ensuring the workforce is ready for what's next.
Net-zero ambitions: The approximately 200,000m² area is planned to be a net-zero location. Siemens is partnering with the city of Erlangen for an innovative energy infrastructure, green energy supply, and energy storage.
Efficiency in water management: Siemens has demonstrated how digital twin technology can improve efficiencies in water management, a critical resource that impacts multiple industries.
That’s it, as we wrap up this edition, I truly hope you've gained some killer insights into the Industrial Metaverse. If you want to continue this conversation, hit me up on Linkedin or Twitter and share your thoughts or questions; let's make this a two-way street.
NEXT WEEK’S AGENDA
Decoding the 'WhatsApp Killer': A Fireside chat with Sirkl.io's Ronny Dahan
Hey, if you're curious about the future of decentralized messaging, you won't want to miss this. Next week Wednesday, I'll be sitting down with Ronny Dahan, the founder of Sirkl.io, for a fireside chat that's all about shaking up the Web3 communication game. Some are even calling Sirkl.io the "WhatsApp Killer," and we're gonna dig into why.
But here's the deal: I don't want to be the only one asking questions. This is a two-way convo, and I want you in on it. Let's challenge what we know, ask the hard-hitting questions, and shape the future of Web3 communication together.
Hope to see you soon, Wednesday!
