The Wild West of Web3 by BorgoAcademy
“Web3 is just hype”
“NFTs are dead!”
“Bitcoin is a scam”
Despite the roller-coaster ride of hype cycles, market fluctuations, and evolving technologies, Web3 has not only endured but is thriving. I mean, we are still here, right?
While there’s still chatter about prices and charts, the focus has significantly shifted towards practical solutions and integrating Web3 into real-world strategies.
This is an exciting time as businesses and users are exploring how to harness the potential of Web3 in more meaningful ways.
In other words, the ecosystem has evolved and it is much more mature right now.
Today, many projects, companies, and even users are focused on creating solutions and products that integrate Web3 into actual business strategies, processes, and solutions.
The good thing about the current moment is that the Web3 space is increasingly centered around innovation and utility. While there’s still the speculative ingredient, more sustainable, scalable solutions - that can genuinely benefit various sectors - are being created.
To be at the forefront of this revolution, education is key. Understanding the intricacies of Web3 can empower both professionals and businesses to navigate and leverage this new era effectively.
Whether it’s about blockchain, decentralized finance, marketing strategies or the metaverse, being well-informed will set you apart.
And if you have been following me for a while, you know how much I value the power of education - and especially within a new environment such as Web3, it becomes even more important.
Tech, yes:
But not only for Techies
Not to be confused - whenever we talk about "Education in Web3" many people still think it’s only about dev courses or learning how to create smart contracts.
Of course, these are super important, but we must have a broader view. It’s not just about coding; it’s about understanding the whole ecosystem.
Learning the ethos, structure, and dynamics of Web3 is crucial. Whether you're a professional looking to enhance your career or a brand aiming to step into Web3, a comprehensive understanding of community, co-creation, and communication is essential.
This knowledge enables you to engage meaningfully with the space and leverage its full potential - regardless of the industry you/your company are positioned.
To “illustrate” that, check this out:
And there are many other sectors we have covered
As you can see, there are applications for Web3 in different ways and formats - and for people with different backgrounds. This Pink Beanie, for instance: as much as I have to deal with tech jargon on a daily basis, I’m far from being a coder/developer myself.
Something I’m always saying: Web3 isn't just a technological shift, but also a cultural one. It's about decentralized communities where users have more control and ownership.
And understanding this cultural shift is key to successfully navigating and thriving in the Web3 space. It's about seeing the bigger picture and recognizing how these changes impact various aspects of business and society.
So as we can see, educating oneself in Web3 goes beyond technical skills. It involves grasping the whole concept of decentralization, the importance of digital identity, and the economic implications of those changes.
This holistic understanding prepares individuals and businesses to innovate and lead in the Web3 era.
Moreover, the cross-disciplinary nature of Web3 means that professionals from marketing, finance, supply chain, and many other fields can find relevant applications for their expertise. By understanding how Web3 intersects with their industries, they can drive innovation and remain competitive in a rapidly evolving environment.
Again: I’m not saying tech skills are not important - FAR FROM THAT. But thriving in this space doesn’t necessarily mean becoming a tech-focused professional (or business).
Education:
The true Web3 game-changer
I finished the previous segment with an “I’m not saying…” statement.
But now, what I AM saying is that education IS a game-changer when it comes to crypto and Web3 adoption.
Again: Educating people and businesses on what Web3 is, is vital. That simple.
As the whole ecosystem evolves, understanding its nuances and applications becomes essential for both companies and individuals. Education bridges the gap, demystifying Web3 and making it accessible to a broader audience.
(No, your crypto Twitter is NOT a “broader audience” 😆)
I recently posted my takeaways from a report about “Web3 Global Adoption” and one of the craziest findings was that “Despite high awareness, 46% of non-users feel they don’t know enough about Web3 to use it confidently.”
There are of course many great resources online: videos, podcasts, reports, people-to-follow on Social Media, and many more.
But I do feel there’s space for something crafted from real-world experiences. From hits and misses in actual businesses. From the trenches.
And I’m here for this.
Back in edition #6, I hinted about what I was building/aiming for with an education-focused project, and here’s an extra bit of background:
“The year is 2004 and I'm a 14-year-old stuck in a school system that rewards and perpetuates a narrow-minded and herd mentality.
For those who know me well, it's no secret that I've never been good at following the status quo or delivering against mainstream expectations.
With my determination to push boundaries and make a difference, it's no surprise that my school career was tumultuous.
I faced numerous challenges, and my teachers even went so far as to tell me that they felt sorry for my parents, because I would not get anywhere.
While going through this CRAZY Web3 journey I have been on for 3 years now, one of the things that I always deeply loved was:
📘 EDUCATION! 📱
That's why I'm super stoked to announce the official launch of the…”

Roblox:
Much more than gaming
This is not the first time Roblox is mentioned here - and certainly not the last one.
Roblox has over 77 million daily active users, 67% of whom are Gen Z and Gen Alpha. More than half of these users discover new brands while gaming and are more likely to purchase from brands featured in a game, making Roblox the ideal platform for brand engagement.
While many people still look at it as (just) a gaming platform for kids, Roblox has evolved into a massive ecosystem where brands can engage with younger generations in innovative ways. With its huge audience and an ever-growing community of developers, Roblox presents a unique opportunity for brands to connect with a highly engaged public.
“But Diego, I’m not convinced Roblox is a good option for brand awareness”

Sauce: Roblox blog
Roblox’s growth is fueled by its unique blend of user-generated content and social interaction.
Players can create their own games or experiences, leading to an endless variety of content that keeps users coming back. This has created a thriving ecosystem where creativity and community are at the forefront.
For brands, this means endless possibilities to create immersive experiences that resonate with users.
But Roblox’s importance for brands extends beyond mere engagement. It offers a platform to experiment with new marketing strategies and gather valuable insights about consumer behavior.
In other words, Roblox provides an excellent sandbox for testing new ideas. Brands can experiment with various interactive elements, from gamified shopping experiences to virtual concerts, gathering real-time feedback and adjusting their strategies accordingly.
On top of that, the immersive nature of Roblox allows brands to create memorable experiences that go beyond traditional advertising, fostering loyalty and community among users.
In conclusion, it represents a powerful tool for brands looking to engage with younger audiences and innovate their marketing strategies.
By creating interactive and immersive experiences, brands can build meaningful connections and drive engagement in ways that were previously unimaginable - or at least much harder to pull off.

“It's a great way for client storytelling!”
Exactly!
Offering your customers/fans a more immersive way of interacting with your brands is certainly a great path for better storytelling opportunities.
Imagine the things you can create when laws of physics don’t apply and when creativity is your only “obstacle”.
“Roblox is such an obvious channel for brands”
100%
People are there. People spend a lot of time there.
Why would your brand miss this opportunity?
“From passive to immersive!”
We have talked A LOT about immersive experiences in The Wild West of Web3.
And the more I read and learn about this, the more certain I am about how this can help brands create better interactions with their customers.
