Real-world use cases.
Most editions we have published so far explored at least a couple of use cases each. Solutions, projects, ideas, and products that are - in different ways - being used by real people and actual businesses.
And today, we’ll keep talking about how brands are leveraging Web3 and immersive experiences to create new business opportunities.
LFG!
A constant reminder:
The importance of sharing real-world use cases
“Bitcoin price is down”
“My favorite NFT project has lost half its value”
It’s always important to remind people that despite “numbers-go-up-and-down-charts” there’s a whole world of actual Web3 projects being created and gaining traction, offering insights into how it can become a transforming force in traditional sectors.
In some recent developments, companies are leveraging blockchain for secure transaction processing and data management; Decentralized applications (dApps) and smart contracts are further expanding Web3’s utility; Brands are creating super immersive experiences for their fans. And the list goes on and on.
These innovations are enabling more complex interactions and transactions within the digital space, creating new opportunities for businesses and consumers alike.
And these real-world projects are VERY important when it comes to bringing the next waves of users into our space.
After all, as much as some people love talking about crypto wallets, Layer 2 tokens, airdrops, or that new AI for [insert any random task here], it’s by showcasing real solutions/products that we can highlight the benefits brought by Web3 - often without having to go through complex jargon or explanations.
In a report published by PwC nearly 2 years ago, there’s a very interesting excerpt:
“Web3 is more than a singular technology. It’s more than a convergence of technologies. It’s an ethos that has the potential to empower consumers while strengthening the relationship consumers have with brands that are willing to operate with them in the space.
Web3 fundamentally changes the way business takes place and how we connect to one another on a personal level. In fact, web3 is expected to fundamentally alter the way we think about our presence online over the next few years”
Time to dive into some very interesting examples 👊
Revolut x Ledger:
Trading crypto is getting easier
Revolut (a “cryptocurrency-friendly online bank”) has recently partnered with Ledger, enhancing its position in the crypto space by integrating a new buying feature directly into Ledger's hardware wallet interface.
This marks a significant step for Revolut as it expands its services and accessibility to a broader audience.
The integration allows Revolut users to buy cryptocurrencies directly through Ledger Live, simplifying the process of managing and acquiring digital assets. This move helps streamline the user experience, making it easier for individuals to interact with their crypto holdings securely.
The collaboration leverages the strengths of both platforms, combining Revolut's robust financial services with Ledger's security features - so there’s a solution for the growing demand for secure and convenient methods to manage cryptocurrency trading.
In addition to facilitating direct purchases, this integration is expected to drive greater adoption of cryptocurrencies by simplifying the process for new and existing users.
Think about it: for the regular user, it’s MUCH easier/convenient to buy their crypto using an account/card they are already familiar with instead of dealing with browser extensions, exchanges, etc.
“Cryptocurrency is inevitable, and allowing people to buy and sell digital assets securely and with self-custody is paramount as more people enter the market”
This, plus the recent moves by Mastercard, Visa, and other traditional finance-related brands may be the boost the space needs to see more people joining in.
Sony's Soneium:
Aiming for a world where Web3 use cases are a part of daily life
The “Aiming for a world where Web3 use cases are a part of daily life” part was taken directly from Sony’s website - so they seem to be very clear about the direction this project is headed.
Sony Block Solutions Labs has unveiled its blockchain infrastructure network, "Soneium", designed to underpin the Web3 ecosystem.
This represents Sony’s plan to “harness” blockchain technology to revolutionize digital interactions and services, aiming to create a new foundation for Web3 applications.
If you like the tech jargon:
Sauce: Sony’s website
In more practical terms - and quoting the project’s page:
“Soneium will connect blockchain technology (Web3) with everyday internet services (Web2). This connection will make things easier for users, helping more people start using blockchain.”
Soneium is positioned as a “public blockchain with an open network”, allowing broad participation and fostering the development of diverse applications. Sony's strategy involves leveraging its extensive portfolio of businesses and intellectual property to drive innovation and create new, user-centric services within the Web3 space.
Developers and creators will have access to Soneium’s tools and environments, designed to be efficient and cost-effective. A testnet will soon be available to facilitate the development of applications, with the mainnet expected to offer users a full range of Web3 services upon launch.
In summary, I believe this represents a significant advancement for the whole space since we have another huge player making moves - and potentially bringing part of their audience along.
“The Web3 industry is in the midst of a major transformation. We believe that the watershed moment for the entire Web3 industry will be whether we, as companies involved in Web3, can truly provide solutions that billions of people use as a matter of course in their daily lives and make Web3 mainstream in the next few years"
Manchester City x Sony:
Virtual Etihad Stadium
(No, I’m not working with Sony 😅)
Manchester City, one of the world’s most popular FOOTBALL clubs has launched the "Man City Virtual Etihad Stadium" an innovative fan engagement experience developed in collaboration with Sony.
This new interactive platform utilizes Sony’s FavoriteSpace service to offer “Cityzens” a unique way to connect and interact with the club virtually.
The app, available to fans in the UK, US, and Japan, features personalized avatars and various activities, including challenges, social events, and minigames. It also provides digital merchandise and immersive match highlights.
And besides the “cool” factor, the partnership introduces new opportunities for sponsors and partners, such as Etihad and Nissan, to engage with fans through reactive LED messaging and interactive features within the virtual stadium.
By combining Sony’s technological expertise with Manchester City’s content and fan base, the Man City Virtual Etihad Stadium aims to enhance fan engagement and create new ways for supporters to experience their favorite team.
And if you have been following The Wild West of Web3 for a while, you know how much I support these new ways of interacting with fans - and we’ve explored several examples in past editions.
“This is the latest digital experience we have launched for our global fanbase - following success on other platforms such as Roblox and Fortnite in recent years - and we hope fans across the world will enjoy it"
Considering just the more recent editions, we have talked about Visa, Mastercard, Telegram, Roblox, Apple, Samsung, Sony, Lamborghini, and a few other big brands exploring possibilities within the Web3 space.
NO, this does not mean automatic success or mass adoption. However, seeing more and more global names joining this environment after the 2020-21 “hype” certainly shows that, well, it wasn’t just hype.
The question that I keep asking is: are you ready for what comes next?
How would you rate this edition of The Wild West of Web3? |
See you soon.
